MONSANTO EXPLAINS PINK GLOW ON JUANA DIAZ NIGHT SKY

This week, some residents may have noticed a pink glow on the Juana Diaz night sky, near our facilities. These lights are LED grow lights, currently being tested at our smart greenhouse in the Juana Díaz site. They are part of our continuous plan to strengthen our plant breeding activities in Puerto Rico through investments in field operations, new breeding technologies, and expanded facilities. At the moment, we are working on calibrating the intensity and brightness of these lights. The plan is to use them during the daytime and some sessions during the dawn.

These LED grow lights further innovate Monsanto’s smart greenhouse agriculture project for sustainable cotton and soy conversion projects. The greenhouse also includes the complete automation of some processes like sowing, harvesting, and seed production. Other processes follow a combination of automation and the human touch of our skilled workforce. These are proven to be highly effective in protecting crops against environmental factors, allowing for a virtually error-free production, saving the company potential costly mistakes. This technology shortens the time for growing crops and allows to increase production, however the most significant achievement can be found in the topic of sustainability.
