Fostering the Conversation about Genetically Modified Organisms

Fostering the Conversation about Genetically Modified Organisms

On Friday, April 10th, our colleague Francisco Acevedo, Soy Crop Nursery Lead at Monsanto Isabela Site, gave a keynote titled “Myths and Facts about Agricultural Biotechnology” at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico (PUCPR) in Ponce. The event, titled “The Controversy over Genetically Modified Organisms,” is the 14th of a series titled Environmental Forum.

Over 110 people – students, faculty members, neighbors and community members – gathered at the forum organized by the PUCPR Biology Department. Other speakers included Hugo Cuevas, Plant Research Geneticist at the USDA, ARS Tropical Agriculture Research Station; and Dr. Alberto Santiago Cornier, clinical geneticist, Associate Professor of Biochemistry at the Ponce Health Sciences University, and Director of the Clinical Research Center at the San Jorge Children’s Hospital.
